Hiring Acquistions Editor, Wilfrid Laurier University Press

Reporting to the Director, the Acquisitions Editor is responsible for developing an intellectually distinguished and successful list in several fields, including but not limited to, Canadian history, political science, sociology, social work, health studies and life writing.

Creative and confident, you will research markets, approach potential authors, and prepare the commissioning of 25 titles peryear, solicit, evaluate, and respond to book proposals and manuscripts, and guide authors on manuscript preparation andcarrying out meaningful revisions. You will also present books to the Press' Editorial Board, negotiate contracts, and identify andsolicit funding for titles requiring subsidies. Your talent for academic publishing and knowledge of its genres and processesare complemented by a graduate degree in humanities, one to two years' related work experience, and computer proficiency. You alsohave structural and copyediting experience and knowledge of academic disciplines in a post-secondary environment.
