This position is Full-time, Permanent.
Starting Salary: $36,000/yr plus benefits

Location: Halifax, Nova Scotia
Hours of Work: 40hrs/week. This position requires flexibility (i.e. occasional evening and
weekend meetings and events) but most work occurs during business hours. Overtime is compensated with time off in the following week.
Occasional travel is required.
WFNS fosters creative writing and the profession of writing in the Province of Nova Scotia; provides advice and assistance to writers at all stages of their careers; encourages greater public recognition of writers and their achievements; and enhances the literary arts in our regional and national culture. WFNS was incorporated in 1976 and is a charitable, non-profit organization.

The Executive Director is the senior staff member of the Writers’ Federation of Nova Scotia, which serves over 800 writers across the Province. WFNS members work in many areas: fiction, poetry, non-fiction, journalism, children’s writing, playwriting, screenwriting, etc. There is one other full-time staff member (the Program Officer), as well as a part-time (16hr/wk) Communications Officer and occasional contract staff.
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for:
(a) Operations and office management;
(b) Financial management;
(c) The planning and coordination of projects and activities;
(d) Liaison and communication with the Federation membership, Board of Directors, Writers' Council, government and other external institutions, organizations and agencies;
(g) Membership development and maintenance;
(h) Program development and execution;
(i) Public relations and information;
(j) Otherwise carrying out the policies and directives of the Board and ensuring that the Board is informed;
(k) Acting as an ex-officio non-voting member of the Board and all committees of the Board.
Requirements:
- Financial management, event management, administrative, and supervisory skills and experience;
- Excellent interpersonal, time management, problem solving, and organizational skills;
- Technical/computer literacy: proficient in MS Office (Word, Access, Excel, etc), and other office management programs, PC platform. (Web skills are an asset);
- Familiarity and experience with the arts and/or not-for-profit community.
