Freedom Clothing Collective: Artist Submissions for October 2009 group show

Freedom Clothing Collective welcomes emerging local artists to submit their works for a chance to participate in an exhibition celebrating the city of Toronto. Following the garbage strike and the accompanying stench, everyone needs a little reminder of why we love this city.

We live in a time in which negative press dominates our thinking – currently and for the foreseeable future, the topics of global depression and war flood our headlines of the world abroad while closer to home experts and the like have defined their niche as scrutinizers of our city’s shortcomings and debaters of its inevitable failures.

Toronto Life has started the summer with their 50 Reasons to Love Toronto Now issue, while the Globe and Mail has celebrated the end of the strike with an interactive chat with Konrad Yakabuski discussing Toronto’s great potential as Canada’s first global city. There is, however, no more powerful medium than artistic expression to break us from the shackles of negativity and put into perspective the vast and rapid flow of information that we are exposed to daily.

The exhibition will take place in mid-October for a period of one month.

We are interested in your artistic explorations of the city - your personal interpretation of it and the ways that this city has inspired you. We welcome all forms of media; being innovative and thinking outside the box are quite mandatory!

Submission Requirements
• Artist’s statement (max 500 words)
• Low-medium res images of all works to be considered (file name is to correspond with work title)
• A detailed list of all submitted works to specify their dimensions, value, and medium.

There is no submission fee; however selected participants are subject to an exhibition fee of $20. All works sold in the premises will be subject to 30% commission.

APPLICATION DEADLINE: SEPTEMBER 17, 2009
Please note that the evaluation process will commence immediately.

Please send in your submission package to arts.freedomcc@gmail.com with “OCT SUBMISSION – (ARTIST’S NAME)” as the subject. Please include artist’s name in the file names of all attached documents.
